Brooks Lee Award Field Player of the Week Week Of 5/23/2022 Sport Baseball School Cal Poly Year Sophomore Position Hometown San Luis Obispo, CA High School San Luis Obispo HS Brooks Lee was tremendous during a 4-0 week for Cal Poly that included a three-game home sweep over UC Davis. The redshirt sophomore shortstop batted .474 (9-for-19) and slugged 1.211 with a home run in each contest. He had eight runs, two doubles, eight RBI, an intentional walk to increase his single-season school-record total to 20, zero strikeouts, and handled 14 of 15 defensive chances cleanly (.933). Lee drove in two runs in all four games last week. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, an intentional walk and a game- and career-high four runs in Friday night’s series opener with the Aggies, an 11-0 romp. His current hit streak stands at 12 games. The preseason All-American who could potentially be the top pick in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on July 17, continues to lead The Big West in nearly every major statistical category, including runs (53), hits (83), doubles (24), home runs (15), RBI (54), walks (44), total bases (154), slugging (.694), on-base percentage (.476) and OPS (1.170). In his pursuit of the Triple Crown, Lee’s batting average of .374 ranks second only behind Cal State Fullerton’s Austin Schell (.390). Second-place Cal Poly (35-20, 20-7 Big West) has won 11 straight games, the longest streak in The Big West in 2022, and moved back into the Collegiate Baseball top 30 at No. 18 on Monday morning. Lee has hit .408 during the stretch with five doubles, six home runs and 14 RBI. This is Lee’s fifth career weekly Big West honor. He was previously the choice back on March 7, after back-to-back awards on March 8 and March 15, 2021, and another on May 17, 2021. Lee is the third successive Mustang picked, following first-time teammates Ryan Stafford (May 9) and Joe Yorke (May 16). Cal Poly now has five field player selections for 2022, with Collin Villegas on April 4, and also has collected three pitcher awards. Earlier Monday, Lee was among 10 Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week. This is his first time on that list in 2022, joining Villegas (April 4) and ace Drew Thorpe (March 28 and May 16).
