  • Junior right-hander Fynn Chester remarkably needed just 76 pitches to fire a three-hit, complete-game shutout (3-0) at Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon. The first-year Titan transfer scattered three singles without issuing a walk, and struck out three, all looking.
  • Chester faced just one over the minimum against an in-form Dirtbag squad that had already clinched a fourth consecutive series victory through a pair of one-run decisions. After allowing two of his three hits in the first inning, he retired 22 consecutive batters from the second to a one-out knock in the ninth. Chester cleaned that up with a first-pitch, game-ending 5-4-3 double play. Only three of the 27 outs he recorded went to the outfield.
  • The native of Victoria, British Columbia, improved his win-loss record to 2-1, and lowered his season ERA down to 2.47. His was the first complete-game shutout by a Titan since former ace Tanner Bibee also tossed a three-hitter (5-0) on the road at USC on March 5, 2021.
  • Chester’s longest outing of the season before Sunday was just 4.2 frames in his previous start at home against Cal Poly on May 15. He has five starts among 22 appearances.
  • Chester is a first-time honoree. He is Cal State Fullerton’s first pitcher selection of 2022, and first since Bibee earned two of the first three awards of the 2021 campaign. Current teammate Jackson Lyon was the field player choice back on April 18.
