  • Melissa LaMette led Cal Poly to a pair of home victories in The Big West action over the weekend, as the Mustangs defeated Long Beach State (4-0) for the first time in over 15 years on Friday, and then-75th-ranked Hawai’i (5-2) on Sunday. They improved to 12-4 overall, and a still-undefeated 5-0 in conference activity and 8-0 at home on the year. A winner of seven straight, Cal Poly remains tied atop the standings with UC Santa Barbara (3-0). The Mustangs moved into Wednesday’s latest ITA national rankings for the first time this season at No. 72.
  • The redshirt sophomore and native Texan won both of her matches at No. 3 singles, and also teamed up with Delanie Dunkle to go 2-0 on the No. 2 doubles court. LaMette produced the match clincher against Long Beach State’s Sheena Masuda, 7-5, 7-6(3), and then beat Ana Vilcek of Hawai’i, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. She and Dunkle downed Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point over the Beach, before blanking UH’s Vilcek and Tal Talya Zandberg, 6-0.
  • LaMette has now won her last four singles matches and is 10-5 on the year, tied for the most wins on the team. In doubles, she and Delanie Dunkle are 8-3.
  • LaMette is a first-time Big West Player of the Week, and Cal Poly’s second honoree this season after Peyton Dunkle earned the first award of 2022 back on Jan. 19.
