  • Graduate student Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles while aiding UC Irvine to a 2-1 record at home last weekend.
  • In a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Idaho on Saturday, the France native won 6-2 at No. 2 with Jenna Schlatter to clinch the doubles point, and 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Gonzalez-Rico went on to another straight-set triumph (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 in a 7-0 romp over Hope International later that same afternoon, after sitting out doubles.
  • On Sunday during a 4-3 loss to Big West foe CSUN, Gonzalez-Rico pulled out a 7-6(2) decision at No. 2 doubles with Schlatter, and then rallied to outlast her singles opponent at No. 1, Ekaterina Repina (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).
  • The first-year grad transfer from Emory University improves to 17-7 on the year in singles, including 9-3 in dual contests, all at No. 1, with a seven-match win streak. In doubles, Gonzalez-Rico has won eight in a row, going 10-2 at No. 2 in dual competition.
  • Gonzalez-Rico, the 2019 NCAA Division III singles national champion who then led Emory to the 2021 team title before sharing in the doubles crown, is the first Anteater to earn weekly honors this season.
