Ella Connor Award Pairs Team of the Week Week Of 3/21/2022 Sport Beach Volleyball School Cal Poly Year Freshman Position Hometown Kihei, Maui, HI High School Seabury Hall Tia Miric and Ella Connor went 2-0 at the No. 1 spot as No. 12 Cal Poly won a trio of matches on Sunday at home against Southern Miss (5-0), Houston Baptist (4-1) and No. 18 Pepperdine (3-2). After sitting out the Southern Miss contest to begin the day, the Mustang duo posted a comfortable 21-14, 21-13 decision over Houston Baptist’s Brennan Miller and Maddie Butters. Facing Pepperdine’s Melanie Paul and Madison Shields later, Miric and Connor pulled out a 21-17, 17-21, 15-9 triumph to regain a 2-1 edge for Cal Poly. Miric, a fifth-year senior and Canadian national, and Connor, a freshman from Hawaii, were a team-best 10-4 this season through Sunday’s action, all in the No. 1 position, with wins in six straight matches. Miric and Connor are the first weekly honorees for the Mustangs this season. Miric is a two-time winner personally, with a prior nod on March 9, 2020. With Sunday’s performance combined with a Monday morning victory over Boise State, Cal Poly has won six in a row to improve to 9-7 heading into Monday home tilts with No. 10 Cal and No. 16 Arizona.
