Big West Conference

After recording a trio of Top 10 finishes in the month, Long Beach State’s Alejandro de Castro Piera earned a first career nod as Big West Golfer of the Month for March. 

The senior has now finished in the Top 10 in five straight tournaments for the Beach, who are currently ranked No. 28 in the Clippd team listings. Individually, de Castro Piera comes in at 35th, the highest ranked Big West golfer. 

The native of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, began March with a runner-up finish at the R. E. Lamkin Invitational, opening the event with an impressive 9-under 63 before finishing one stroke back with a total of 13-under 203 as LBSU also finished as team runners-up.  

De Castro Piera took home the individual title at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate March 16-17, finishing again at 13-under 203. This time, de Castro Piera opened with a pair of 7-under 65’s on the first day of play and never looked back with 20 total birdies in Tucson as the Beach again claimed second in the team standings.  

Finally, de Castro Piera tied for sixth place among 160 golfers at The Goodwin, held March 26-28 at Stanford GC.  He rolled in 16 birdies in the event, tied for second in the field.
