High School Corona HS Long Beach State starting pitcher Jason Gerfers pitched a second complete game in as many outings to earn The Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. It is the second straight weekly honor for Gerfers, having won the award last week. In Sunday’s series finale at Cal State Bakersfield, the Beach freshman tossed all nine innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts, allowing only one run. LBSU defeated the Roadrunners 5-1 in the game to salvage the series. The Calimesa, Calif. native allowed only four hits and retired the side in order in the first, sixth and seventh innings. Gerfers is 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 35.2 innings on the mound this season.
