High School Corona HS Long Beach State starting pitcher Jason Gerfers pitched a complete game against Hawai'i to earn The Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. It is the first career weekly honor for Gerfers. In Sunday’s series finale rubber match against the Rainbow Warriors, the Beach righty tossed all nine innings with seven strikeouts, allowing one run in 123 pitches. LBSU defeated Hawai’i 2-1 in the game to take the series. After retiring the first nine batters, the Calimesa, Calif. native allowed the only Rainbow Warrior run in the fourth, then settled in to strand runners in scoring position in the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings, including closing the game with the tying run at third. Gerfers is 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 26.1 innings on the mound this season.
