High School Santa Margarita Catholic HS (Colorado State) UC Irvine forward Kyle Evans poured in 22 points in the title game of the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational to earn The Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week award. It is the first career weekly honor for Evans. The Aliso Viejo, Calif. native recorded 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists in an 89-70 neutral-site win against Norfolk State on Monday. Evans shot 8-for-12 rom the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. The Anteaters won the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational and the senior was named the the MVP of the MTE after averaging 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds over the two games. UC Irvine enters the 2026 calendar year with a 9-5 overall record. Evans is averaging 11.8 points per game, 8.0 rebounds and an NCAA-best 3.1 blocks per game.
