High School Notre Dame After a pair of Top 10 finishes in October, UC Irvine’s Katelyn Kong has claimed a first career honor at Big West Golfer of the Month. The two Top 10s runs the string the three, carrying over from a solid September. The sophomore placed sixth at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational finishing at 5-over 218 to open the month. The following weekend, Kong closed in a tie for eighth at the Golf Iconic Classic, highlighted by a career-low 67 in the first round and a three-round total of 3-under 213, rolling in 11 birdies in the event. The North Hills, Calif., native led UCI squad that shot a school-record second round of 279 as the Anteaters carded a third-place team finish. Kong is the first UC Irvine monthly award winner since the 2017-18 season.
