High School Edison HS UC San Diego sophomore Molly McCluskey claimed the season’s first Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor after a record-setting weekend in La Jolla, Calif. The opposite hitter recorded UCSD’s single-match record in Division I competition on Sunday with 33 points against Northwestern. The 29-kill outing was good for a career high, two shy from another Triton program best. The product of Costa Mesa, Calif., opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles with 16 kills and 11 digs in a sweep of Eastern Washington on Friday. Hitting .682 in the match (16-1-22), McCluskey notched UCSD’s single-match benchmark. McCluskey added 11 kills and 10 digs in a four-setter against New Mexico on Saturday. The opposite hitter averaged 5.82 points, 5.09 kills and 2.64 digs per set to earn honors as a member of the UC San Diego Invitational All-Tournament Team. The Big West weekly nod is a first career offensive honor and fourth overall after claiming freshman honors three times in 2024.
