High School Newport Harbor HS UC Santa Barbara’s Riggs Guy was instrumental in the Gauchos' perfect 3-0 week to claim Big West Freshman of the Week for a first career weekly award. On Tuesday against Cal Lutheran, the outside hitter recorded the fifth set-clinching kill as part of a 5-1-7 (.571) night, playing half the match. At No. 8 CSUN on Friday, Guy's 17 kills lead all Gauchos in the five-set upset, to go along with an ace, four blocks and five digs. In the fifth set, Guy came up clutch, winning five of UCSB’s final nine points, including the clincher. In Saturday’s rematch, the Newport Beach, Calif., native again led the team with 14 kills alongside seven digs and an ace in the four-set victory.
