High School Columbus North HS Hawai’i middle blocker Kurt Nusterer was a force on the front line as the No. 4 Rainbow Warriors took a pair of matches at No. 5 BYU over the weekend. For the efforts Nusterer was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week for a second career honor. The product of Indianapolis, Ind., averaged 2.22 blocks per set fpr UH, making a career high of 10 blocks in each of the two matches in Provo, Utah. Nusterer helped the ’Bows record a season-best 18.5 blocks in the five-set opener, contributing one solo and nine assisted on Friday. With another 10-block effort in the rematch, UH limited the Cougars to a .147 team hitting percentage in the four-set Hawai’i victory. An eye-popping seven of Nusterer’s 10 blocks on Saturday came in the opening frame of the action. Nusterer currently averages 1.222 blocks per set, good for fourth in The Big West and 12th nationally.
