Blake McGovern had a big month for UC Santa Barbara to claim Big West Golfer of the Month honors for March, a first career monthly award from the conference.
-
The senior started the month off at the Jackrabbit Invitational, securing a tie for second place after compiling a 54-hole total of 3-under 213. McGovern finished with 12 birdies and rolled in an eagle on the Par 5 second hole at Boulder Creek Golf Club during the second round of action from March 8-9. McGovern’s result helped guide the Gauchos to a runner-up team finish.

Playing in the UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines from March 24-26, McGovern took third individually. The native of Newbury Park, Calif., fired a 68 in the final round to come in at 4-under 212 in the 108-golfer event.

McGovern becomes the first Gauchos men’s golfer to earn the monthly nod from the conference since 2018-19 when Zach Smith was twice named the honoree.
