  • The Cal Poly sophomore tandem of Ella Connor and Izzy Martinez enjoyed a perfect 5-0 weekend at the Big West Challenge to take home Big West Pairs Team of the Week. This is Connor’s second career weekly award, taking honors with partner Tia Miric once in 2022. 

  • Highlights for the duo included wins over No. 1 pairs from No. 7 Long Beach State and No. 12 Hawai'i on Sunday.  

  • It took three sets for Connor and Martinez to take down last year’s Big West Co-Freshmen of the Year tandem Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah of Long Beach State, 21-12, 17-21, 15-11. The Mustang pairing then took down UH’s Jaime Santer and Alana Embry, 21-19, 21-14, to cap the event co-hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State. 

  • They helped Cal Poly go 6-0 and win the Big West Challenge to improve to 20-2 overall and stretch the Mustangs' win streak to 15 in a row. Connor and Martinez are 17-4 and have won 11 straight matches.
