High School Otay Ranch HS Hawai'i starting pitcher Randy Abshier tossed seven innings of one-run ball against Rice to claim The Big West Pitcher of the Week award. It is the second career weekly honor for Abshier, having garnered the accolade once last year (April 24). In an eventual 4-3 team victory in the game two of the four-game series, the senior allowed only two hits for one run and tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts. The lefty held the Owls hitless over the first 5.1 innings. Hawai'i is currently 9-6 on the season with one game still to go against Rice. Abshier currently has a 5.40 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 20.0 innings of work.
