The Big West announced today the names of 176 student-athletes from nine member institutions who were recipients of Academic All-Big West Conference honors for the spring sports of baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, and men's and women's golf. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
UC Irvine led all Big West schools with 29 all-academic representatives, including 15 student-athletes from the women's track and field team. UC Riverside placed 25 representatives on the all-academic team, including a league-high four members of the women's golf team.
Long Beach State tallied 23 honorees and Cal State Northridge followed with 20. Cal Poly and first-year member UC Davis had 18 student-athletes earn all-academic certificates, while UC Santa Barbara (17), Cal State Fullerton (14) and Pacific (12) were also well represented on the squad.
Women's track and field had the most representation on the squad with 64 student-athletes earning recognition. Men's track and field (26), softball (26) and women's tennis (20) were next on the list, respectively.
