  • UC Irvine catcher Blake Penso slashed .5600/.647/1.067 with nine hits, one walk, 12 RBI and five runs scored to win The Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award. It is Penso's first career weekly honor from the conference.
     
  • The fourth-year Anteater went 4-for-5 with a home run, six RBI and four runs in a 14-11 win in the series opener at Cal State Bakersfield, Friday night. 
     
  • Penso was 2-for-5 from the plate with four RBI as the Anteaters prevailed 7-3 in game two on Saturday. 
     
  • On Sunday, the Huntington Beach, Calif. product hit 3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI and one run to help secure a series sweep for the Anteaters with a 5-3 win. Penso also threw out three runners trying to steal in the game.  
     
  • UC Irvine is 38-11 overall and in first place in the league standings with a 23-4 record. Penso is hitting .301 with six home runs, 36 RBI and 31 runs this season.

  • UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Tyler Bremner pitched 6.1 innings of one run ball against LMU to earn The Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. It is Bremner's second career weekly honor, having won it once last season. 
     
  • In a Friday matchup at LMU, the UCSB righty struck out 10 batters in 6.1 innings of work, giving up only one hit and one run. The Gauchos prevailed 12-1. 
     
  • UC Santa Barbara is 34-16 overall and 14-13 in conference play. Bremner is 4-4 with a 3.84 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 70.1 innings of work. The San Diego, Calif. native now has 282 career strikeouts as a Gaucho, breaking a 39-year-old school record.
