Multi Championships Day 1 Results
The first day of the Big West Multi Championships is in the books and Long Beach State's Aaron Booth and Cal Poly's Adelae Fredeen sit in the lead in their respective competitions.
Booth leads the decathlon thanks to first place finishes in four of the five events of the day. Booth ran 11.00 in the 100 meters for 861 points, a mark of 7.20m (23-07.50) in the long jump for 862 points, 13.61 meters (44-08) in the shot put for 704 points, 1.99 meters (6-06.25) in the high jump for 794 points and 51.99 in the 400 for 725 points. He owns the leads over a pair of UC Santa Barbara competitors in Matthew Molina (2,958) and Sam Pica (2,954).
In the heptathlon, Fredeen put up 2,911 points thanks to top four finishes in four of the day's competitions. Fredeen was first in the shot put after a mark of 12.13 meters (39-09.75) for 670 points, third place in the 200 meters after a time of 26.23 for 777 points and fourth place finishes in the 100 hurdles (14.91) and the high jump (1.49m/4-10.50) which got her 854 and 610 points, respectively. Fredeen is just 32 points ahead of her teammate Julianna Ruotolo who claimed first place finishes in the high jump (1.70m/5-07) and the 200 (25.77) on her way to 2,879 points. The heptathlon is a tight race after one day as five athletes are within 142 points of first place.
Day two will see the events flip flop starts as the decathlon gets underway at 11:00 a.m. PT. The decathletes will compete in the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters.
The heptathlon will begin at 1:00 p.m., and features the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
